OBWAKYABAZINGA Bwa Busoga (OBB) has urged traditional healers in Busoga region to collaborate with the Kingdom, NGOs and scientific researchers to fight HIV transmission using their cultural mandate.
Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga, through its health ministry has made the appeal during a one-day workshop of traditional healers at OBB headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja today the 8th of May 2018. The workshop organised by Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga (OBB) in partnership with RHITES EC project is aimed at Orienting Busoga Kingdom structures and equip them with required knowledge, skills and tools to implement the Tx new SURGE Plan . The workshop was facilitated by the OBB health ministry officials Including Owek Andrew Balyeku, Owek Sheila Birungi Gandi and Mr Ivan Tibenkana. Owek Balyeku urged traditional healers to also organise themselves into an association in Busoga and formally register so as they can work in partnership with the Kingdom to combat HIV/AIDS. He urged them to go back in their respective Districts in Busoga and talk to people who visit them in their shrines to go for HIV testing and counseling services in order to know their statuses than giving them herbs before being tested. Tomorrow, May 9th, OBB has organised another workshop that will be attended by Youth Leaders from all districts of Busoga including the tourism queens to be oriented on the same HIV prevention concept.
